A Tablet for the Rest of the World

Tablet for the Rest of the World

Look, not everyone is made of money. Still, we want to get on the internet in the most convenient way. The Kindle, is the most reasonably priced and does about everything you want. It is like an electronic chalkboard that’s portable.

When I was young,we had these little square boards we would bring to school along with our books. Now, the books and the chalkboard are combined. I can read, write, and save my work and I don’t have to carry large amount of books.

This new world we are living in is great. Take Advantage of the Kindle.

Sincerely,

Old School New World

P.S.  If I forget my bifocals, No problem! I can adjust the font size on the Kindle .

Seasoned Professionals

Okay, we’re not dead yet. We are still alive. There use to be a saying, don’t trust anyone over 30 years old. Now that people are living longer, that age has probably been increased to 50 or so.

The point is, we are here, and we’ve got a lot going for ourselves. Come on, we have former Vice President Al Gore, who is, by all accounts, old enough to have created the internet. With that being said, don’t count us out when it comes to technology. We are a great market.

So if you are inventing technology, think of us, you know, the type of people that wear Bifocals and don’t like to drive on freeways. Create applications for phones or computers that help us navigate this new world.

There’s a new company emerging that came across my GOOGLE + page that I want to share with you. It is called “Silver Lining”. Now there’s a double meaning if I ever saw one before. They are developing applications that are helping seniors improve the quality of their lives.  Please take time to visit http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/silverline-smartphones-for-seniors–6 to find out more about them. They are a start up company and are looking for investors.

Imagine being a part of something big that improves the world.  WOW!

Now go back to drinking that Starbucks latte and start inventing new apps using jelly or c++ or whatever the new hip programming language is these days. (When I was growing up, all we had was an abacus.)

Thanks for reading.

Yours Truly,

OLD SCHOOL NEW WORLD

Going PrePaid

There’s been onslaught of commercials about saving money on phone bills. So, I went to the local Walgreens, where they sell prepaid phones.  What a discovery!

Virgin Mobile has incredible phones at reduced rates that operate on the same network as Sprint. In fact, there was one phone for $19.00 with a plan of $45.00 per month, unlimited talk and data.

So, because I am a loyal customer to Sprint, I called and asked if they would give me a similar plan. Their answer was “no, not possible.”  The reasoning is that Virgin Mobile is prepaid as opposed to paid after the fact.

If can save 50% on my bill, it would make sense to prepay it.  After all that is said and done, I still have my current phone and will continue to use it til I need to replace it with a newer model, which in this world of innovation, very soon.  Virgin Mobile Here I Come!

Sincerely,

CDMA-Fixed Wireless

Recently, with all the cutbacks at work, I had to find an inexpensive solution to my continuously growing cellphone bill.  My  “I-Phone” on the shared plan with Sprint was well over $130.00 month. Granted if it weren’t for all the excise taxes and universal access fees,  the monthly charge would have been a little less than $100.00. So what was my solution?

MEET CDMA-FIXED WIRELESS- a $20.00 per month plan,  with unlimited calls (long distance included)  throughout the United States.  The device looks like a portable router. It has the width of a sandwich and can be carried in a purse or briefcase. Two lines can be attached.

I hook up VTECH  HD audio phone to it and it works fine.  As an experiment, I plugged the VTECH phone into the car charge adapter, placed calls and took calls  while on the road, using the VTECH wireless earpiece. The phone worked fine, but like any wireless phone, the quality of the signal was weak in some areas of Phoenix.

The VTECH phone itself is $99.00.  So, if that is too pricey, The CMDA Fixed Wireless works with th $14.95 dollar phone as well.  And, to be truthful, I actually like the cheaper variety better. People have seen me with it and have asked if I have gone “RETRO”  The advantage of the “Retro” phone is that it doesn’t require to be plugged into a power source. So, it becomes completely portable. I take it into the coffee shop with me and get some intrigued looks.

Nevertheless, I have saved over $500.00 on my cell phone bill over the last 5 months. So, now I can spend more time with friends and family, perhaps even buy a few more cafe lattes at the local Coffee Shop.

Til the next Post.
